Entry # 5 - The First Days of School

Image
A picture for Hewlett.org that represents diversity. As suggested from the nursery Christian song entitled "Jesus Loves the Little Children" and I quote, "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world, red, brown, yellow, black, and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world". It is given that we have diverse students. They may be big or small, smart or slow, it can be also be factored by religion, background, home environment, mind set, we always have a variety of students.  As innocent as it seems, this song reminded me on how can a simple nursery rhyme can change the perspective and view of someones mind. You may be wondering why I chose the song to start my blog. Well, Wong's The Effective Teacher part two which is The First Days of School tackled about setting the environment, mood, and atmosphere of the classroom from the very beginning of the academic year up to the last second. Talking ...

Entry # 4 - Educational Philosophy of My Resource Teacher

My resource teacher is Ms. Faula Mae S. David. She is a light-hearted teacher. She teaches with enthusiasm and full of joy inside the classroom, it just radiates among her students. She is very proficient in using the English language. When she is using the language, complex lessons are suddenly becoming easy to grasp and understand. She has a connection to her students, making her such a remarkable educator. Personally, knowing and understanding my students is quite hard for it requires an impeccable memory. She not only full of joy be she also focuses on the technical aspects of teaching. I observed her strategies and techniques when she tasked the class to perform a play. From her judging based on the rubric and classroom management is just top of the line. She is not only an English teacher, she is also a very good values teacher because she always implicitly inject values in her style of teaching. She is very well-rounded, effective, and efficient. Ma'am David inspires me ...

This is the official logo of our Field Study (FS) 6 resource school, Information and Communication Technology High School (ICTHS),. Last July 24, 2018 (Tuesday) my School of Education (SEd) family and I went to Information and Communication Technology High School (ICTHS) in Sindalan, San Fernando Pampanga for our Field Study (FS) 6 deployment. I arrived in the school at 9:30 in the morning and stayed there for a bit. Our coordinator and other SEd students arrived a little bit late than expected at 12 noon. Mr. Gerardo Sicat the FS coordinator of ICTHS welcomed us warmly and gave the schedule of our assigned resource teacher. My classmate Jeremy Sichon and I were assigned to work with Ms. Faula Mae David with her English classes. We had the liberty to choose the classes we will be observing, so to avoid conflict on our subjects, we chose the sections 8 - Euclid and 8 - Fibonacci. We will observe English classes from 9am to 11:15am on Mondays and Fridays. After meeting with ou...

Entry # 2 - The Effective Teacher

Image
This is the DVD of Harry K. Wong's The Effective Teacher that my classmates and I have to reflect during our Field Study (FS) 6. Welcome to my second entry ladies and gents! In this blog you will see how Wong's DVD made an impact on my teaching philosophy. The first part - The Effective Teacher is the introductory remarks and Wong's experiences as a teacher flourished. In this blog, my inputs will be all about how an effective teacher affects his students lives and how they continue to live in their students through the times. The first point that made an impact on me is that every effective teacher is a good classroom manager. Yes, you may know everything about your subject or topic but that is not enough for your students to digest and understand your lessons. It is a must to learn how to manage a class, for in this way you can develop and instill discipline in your students. Next is that an effective teacher knows how to design lessons that helps the stude...

Entry # 1 - Profile

A picture of me taken by a classmate beside the SJH (St. Joseph Hall) building, HAU (Holy Angel University) Greetings! I am Darryl Aquino, 20 years old. I am studying to be a teacher, I am currently studying Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English at Holy Angel University. I am a shifter, meaning I was not an education student before. I was enrolled for two semesters in the engineering department when I knew my calling, my profession, that will be my mission, and eventually, vocation. I long to be an effective and efficient teacher for they are rare and the ones who truly touch lives. I will shape and nurture my future students to their best form. Why did I took English as my major? The funny thing is that when I was filling up the shifting form I knew I wanted education, but have no idea of what major should I pick. I ended picking up English, since I was a good story teller. Little did I know, I suck at nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, and the language aspect o...
