Entry # 2 - The Effective Teacher
This is the DVD of Harry K. Wong's The Effective Teacher that my classmates and I have to reflect during our Field Study (FS) 6.
Welcome to my second entry ladies and gents! In this blog you will see how Wong's DVD made an impact on my teaching philosophy. The first part - The Effective Teacher is the introductory remarks and Wong's experiences as a teacher flourished. In this blog, my inputs will be all about how an effective teacher affects his students lives and how they continue to live in their students through the times.
The first point that made an impact on me is that every effective teacher is a good classroom manager. Yes, you may know everything about your subject or topic but that is not enough for your students to digest and understand your lessons. It is a must to learn how to manage a class, for in this way you can develop and instill discipline in your students. Next is that an effective teacher knows how to design lessons that helps the students reach mastery. My realizations in this point is that you cannot only give theories and concepts to your students. You have to provide supplementary pieces of information and reinforce that to achieve mastery. Lastly, an effective teacher has positive expectations that the students will succeed. Teaching blindly is not teaching at all. You must trust the potential of your students for you, their teacher, knows the ins and outs of their thinking capacity.
I would like to end this episode by saying to all of you ladies and gents this, which is from the part one of the DVD. Effective teaching is doing the right thing, on the flip side efficient teaching is doing the right things. Will it be not just a perfect world where us teachers can do both of the best worlds? Think.

Yes. What you do in the first day will determine your success the whole year. Nice catch from you!
